Appalachian Voices
The mission of Appalachian Voices is to protect and restore Appalachian forest ecosystems and communities by shaping public policy for clean air, coal mining, public lands and forestry. The group promotes direct involvement of communities and the public in important environmental decisions that face people of the region.
Western North Carolina Alliance
The Western North Carolina Alliance is a grassroots organization organized by county chapters. For the past 20 years, the Alliance has brought people together to address critical environmental issues facing mountain communities, issues that have local, regional, state and national significance.
National Audubon Society, North Carolina
Audubon is dedicated to protecting birds and other wildlife and the habitat that supports them. Its national network of community based Audubon nature centers and chapters, environmental education programs and advocacy engage millions of Americans in conservation.
Southern Appalachian Forest Coalition (SAFC)
SAFC is a coalition of member organizations-grassroots, regional and national-dedicated to protecting the ecosystems of the Southern Appalachian region. SAFC orchestrated and has guided the seven-year effort to secure improved management plans for national forests across the region. The SAFC "Conservation Vision" issued in 2002 sets forth a 21st Century vision for the long-term, landscape scale conservation of the Southern Appalachians' scenic and biotic integrity.
Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC)
The Southern Environmental Law Center, dedicated solely to protecting the natural resources of the southeastern United States, is a multi-faceted organization that leads several broad-based conservation initiatives. It also provides direct legal action, policy reform and public education for and partnerships with other groups.
