National Forests and the Role of Planning Projects
Our forests provide clean drinking water for thousands of communities. They shelter wildlife. They offer many ways to recreate, such as hiking, hunting or fishing. And they help to strengthen the economies of local communities. America’s 155 National Forests belong to all Americans, and each of us can have a voice in how they are managed.
The National Forest Service, which manages our forests, is required to design forest management plans for each forest, and to include the public in the process. It is very important for those of us who care about wilderness, wildlife, water and recreation to get involved in forest planning and to help balance the demands of industries such as timber companies and oil and gas developers.
Our Forest Planning Center is designed to help you get informed and involved in the forest planning process, and to ensure that our forests have considerable public input about the importance of conservation.
