  • Arctic Refuge Under Threat in Congressional Budget Process

  • On March 13, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Don Nickles (R-OK) presented a budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2004 that includes an assumption of revenues from drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
     
  • Bush Administration Recommends No New Wilderness for Tongass National Forest

  • On February 28, the Bush Administration released its Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Tongass National Forest and failed to recommend Wilderness protection for a single acre of the Forest.
     
  • Wilderness Land Trust Created in the Northeast

  • Recognizing that private solutions are necessary in order to succeed in preserving Wilderness in the Northeast, the Northeast Wilderness Trust was recently founded to ensure that Wilderness becomes a bigger part of the conservation landscape in this region.
     
  • Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Bill Reintroduced

  • On March 5, Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT) reintroduced the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act.

  • New Wilderness Bills Introduced; House Members Seek To Advance Anti-Wilderness Agenda; New Arizona Wilderness Website
