  • Eastern Sierra Wilderness Bills (CA) Introduced in House and Senate

  • On April 6, 2006, Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) introduced the Eastern Sierra Rural Heritage and Economic Enhancement Act (H.R. 5149) to designate approximately 40,000 acres of the Eastern Sierra region as a wilderness area. The bill adds 39,680 acres to the existing Hoover Wilderness area, and adds 640 acres to the existing Emigrant Wilderness Area. The bill also adds approximately 24 miles of the Amargosa River to the National Wild and Scenic River System.
     
  • Utah Senator Announces Draft Legislation For Washington County Public Lands Bill

  • At the end of March 2006, Senator Bob Bennett (R-UT) and Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT) unveiled a draft of the Washington County Growth and Conservation Act of 2006. This draft legislation addresses a range of public lands issues including wilderness designation, development, and land sales. The measure has not been formally introduced in Congress.
     
  • Save The Date: Wilderness Week In Washington, DC, Planned For Sept. 10-13, 2006

  • This September, gather up your maps, pack your bags, and rally your volunteers, staff, and coalition partners for Wilderness Week, a biannual convergence upon the nation's capital to advocate for protection of our wild public lands.
